"Whenever a collection of information, by reason of its size, its location, or the medium on which it is stored, cannot be scanned in its entirety by any would-be user, the quality of the index determines its value perhaps more than any other factor."
Jessica Milstead, as quoted by Nancy Mulvany
in Indexing Books (1994)
Per page rates generally range from $2.75 to $8.00 per indexable page.
Per word rates are calculated using 250-500 words per "page" depending on page layout and size.
Web and HTML indexing rates depend on the scope of the project and the type of pages/documents to be indexed.

I use professional indexing software to prepare indexes in the style and format that you request, designed to meet your specifications. Specifications may include, but are not limited to, alphabetization, capitalization, subheading format, and cross-reference format and placement. Additional services.
Rates for back-of-book indexing are generally based on a rate per indexable page, i.e., the pages containing material that is to be included in the index. The advantage of this method is that the cost of the index is determined before indexing begins.
Other options for calculating the cost of a project include rates per entry (page locator), per word, or per hour. Per word rates can provide a better estimate of project cost in documents containing large amounts of illustrative material or page layouts utilizing more than one column of text per page.
Rates also vary depending on factors such as the type of, subject of and complexity of the material; indexing specifications that include the indexing of names or illustrative material; the time allotted for indexing; and the depth and specificity of indexing you request.
Here is a list of my subject specialties.
With the aid of specialized software, I create indexes with entries hyperlinked to the indexed topics within your documents.

I can help you make your written communications meet the needs of your audience and your organization as well as the standards and conventions of good writing. This may include aspects such as grammar, word choice, punctuation, clarity, and organization. These changes are made without altering your intent or "voice."
Some documents may also benefit from a change in formatting to present your information in a professional and easy-to-read manner.
